Overview
Project Restore is a collaborative environmental initiative led by the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS).
Project Restore combines multiple large-scale marine restoration initiatives, each with its own objectives, scientific methodologies, stakeholders, and success stories.
The project brings together four of SIMS’ flagship restoration programs — Operation Posidonia, Operation Crayweed, Living Seawalls, and Fish Habitat Enhancement — into a unified effort focused on restoring and protecting Australia’s marine ecosystems.
Challenge
One of the primary challenges was bringing these diverse programs together under a single digital platform while maintaining a clear and cohesive narrative.
The website needed to educate visitors about the importance of marine habitat restoration while showcasing the scale and significance of the project’s work. It also needed to support public engagement, stakeholder communication, and future project growth.
Balancing scientific credibility with accessibility for a broader audience was a key consideration throughout the project.
Approach
A clear content structure was created to help visitors understand the relationship between the four flagship programs and their collective contribution to marine ecosystem restoration.
The website was designed and developed on WordPress with a strong emphasis on visual communication, intuitive navigation, and content accessibility.
The visual design draws inspiration from Australia’s coastal and marine environments, helping reinforce the project’s environmental focus while creating a compelling user experience across all devices.
Result
The finished website provides Project Restore with a modern and engaging platform that effectively communicates its mission and environmental impact.
Visitors can easily learn about the project’s restoration initiatives, understand the importance of marine habitat recovery, and explore the innovative work being undertaken by SIMS and its partners.
The website now serves as a hub for education, collaboration, and public engagement while supporting the long-term goals of the Project Restore initiative.
